Birth Photography Q & A

Why should we hire a birth photographer?

I wondered the same thing when I was asked if I wanted my birth photographed. I remember being worried and thinking why would I want to see myself like that! I can tell you from personal experience that this is one of the things I am so grateful that I did do. Photographs bring about remembrance, and it is amazing how just flipping thru your photos can bring you back in time and let you relive the beauty and sacredness of bringing a child into this world.

How much does it cost?

The JUST BIRTH Package starts at $750. Please send me an email for a full pdf Birth Photography Pricing Sheet. I am offering a 60% discount off the JUST BIRTH Package for the months of May and June.

What comes in the JUST BIRTH Package? Are there any other Packages avaliable?

The just birth Package includes an online slide show to share with family and friends if you choose. And a CD with 50-100 images. There are other Packages avaliable, please contact me for the price list.

Can I meet you before I hire you?

Yes. I can come to your home and answer any questions you may have. I will also bring a sample of products so you can see what you are getting. You can discuss it and let me know if you decide to hire me.

When is it best to book our birth photography session?

I will only book 3 births a month, so if you want your birth photographed, let me know ASAP. Because of the nature of the job, I have a few months in a year when I am not booking any births.

There are certain things I do not want photographed, is that ok?

Yes. I only shoot very modest, tasteful and artistic shots. We will go over what will be shot when we meet, feel free to specify if there are any shots you want or don't want.

Does the birth package need to be paid in full to book my spot?

No. I require a non-refundable fee of $150 to book you. The remaining balance is due with in 4 weeks after that to keep your spot. Unless you are due with in that 4 weeks, it which case yes, the entire amount is due upon booking. In both cases, the $150 is non-refundable and if by chance I do not make it to the birth either because I don't make it in time or forgetting to call or give enough notice on your part, the remaining amount is refundable.

When do you come to a birth and how long do you stay?

I come when you are in active labor and stay for about 2 hours after the birth.

What if I go into labor in the middle of the night, will you be there?

Yes! I am on call 24/7, just like your midwife or doctor.

If I have a long labor, will you charge me extra?

No.

I am a little nervous to have a stranger in the room.

I totally understand, that is why we meet before hand, so you can get to know me a little and I can get to know you. While shooting your birth it is my goal to blend in to the walls and give you as much space as possible. I will not be talking to you and asking you questions, I will be photographing life as it is happening for you. I will leave the room and give you plenty of opportunities to be alone. I don't want to intrude on your comfort, if at anytime something is bothering you, feel free to let me know.

How many images will you take?

It depends on how long I am there and what is going on, but you can plan on at least 50-100 images.

When will we get our pictures?

Your online slide show with some of your images will be ready within 3 days of your baby's birth. I will deliver your CD within 2-3 weeks of the birth.

Do I have to share the images you take?

I will place 3-5 of my favorite(appropriate) photos on my blog/website, but I will have you approve them first. I will also put together an online slide show and you can choose who you want to share it with, if anyone at all. I will be looking for families that will allow me to use there slide shows as samples for other families, if you are interested, let me know.

Is there anything we can do to make this easier on you?

The biggest thing I ask is that you let me know as soon as you think you might be in labor. I know that isn't always possible, but some warning helps me get things together so I don't miss your special moment. I would rather have you let me know it was a false alarm then to miss it.

Do you have a contract?

Yes, I will have a contract, for the safety of both parties, that will need to be signed.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes. They are available in any increment.

Any other questions?

Feel free to email me if there are any other questions that you have. nichole@itsmylifephotography.com
